The Grape

Having never been to Dallas, let alone Texas I really didn't know what to expect in the way of food or anything else for that matter. Well I recently went to Dallas to sing goodbye to my dear friend, designer Robin Mitchelson, who is moving back to Australia. I had a fabulous time, of course! And tasted some great food.

So the eatery I have reviewed is a favorite of Robin's and a favorite of many Dallas residents.

It's called The Grape and is European Bistro on an artsy strip in Dallas. If the weather is agreeable, and I don't know how often that is, you can sit on the front porch by candlelight. It was a little warm for that so we sat in the dining room, also candlelit.

The Grape has a warm and friendly atmosphere with a blackboard menu and a nice wine list. Of course I had to have a martini and that was wonderful too!

For starters, our table shared the charcuterie plate that was a generous assortment of sausages and pates with fruit.

The entrees were all beautiful. The two that were chosen were; and my favorite, Lemon Sage Chicken, half a roasted chicken served with spinach feta couscous in a saffron yogurt sauce made with fresh sage.

The other marvelous entrée was the Tuscan Veal Loin Chop in a balsamic au jus served with roasted Yukon gold potatoes and a green bean and tomato salad. Now you may not be able to get these entrees when you visit The Grape, since their menu changes every two weeks!

Our dear Robin just could not resist dessert so he ordered a house standard, a deep dish crème brulee with fresh berries and a caramelized light brown sugar topping. We finished off our meal out on the porch with an after dinner drink and coffee. It finally was a little cooler. Either that of after the fabby meal we just didn't care!
