Martinis on the Red Rocks

If you have never had the incredible experience of visiting the healing red rocks of Sedona AZ, find a time to do it! My wonderful sister and I had a dreamy trip there in April. Amazing natural beauty like I have never seen! And while we were there, came across a restaurant that was slightly off the beaten path. Luther's American Bistro and Martini Bar has been open less than a year and is getting raves from all the year round residents.

We were seated by the charming and informative hostess, Stephanie, who continued to check on us throughout the evening and also gave some inside info on what to see and do. The spacious dining room has cushy banquettes as well as table seating giving it a 40s supper club feel. And classic jazz is heard over the sound all evening.

First things first, our attentive server, Larry brought us our martinis, which were large and luscious. The menu included a grand assortment of specialty drinks. Luther's also has an impressive wine list. Now we were ready to order food. For starters we shared the Crab Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms. These were roasted with fresh herbs and a generous portion. They were fabulous!

For our entrees I had the Stuffed Rainbow Trout. This was a whole trout stuffed with mixture of lump crab, crimini mushrooms and herbs. This was a beautiful dish.

Lynne, my sister, had one of the Bistro's steaks, a 6 oz filet, grilled to perfection. All Luther's steaks are aged.

I had mentioned the portions were large so we had no room for desert so we on to have a night cap in the Martini Bar which is in the front of the building. This is a local favorite as you can tell by the clientele. Not a typical tourist hang.

The only down side of Luther's is that it really could use a little more warmth and flair in the décor. The lighting in the dining room is a tad bright. And the pale walls could use some larger artwork. They have some interesting paintings of jazz musicians that Luther himself collected in New Orleans but they really are a bit small to fill the space so it tends to look a bit sterile. But once you start enjoying the food, all this is of minor concern!
