El Gaucho, The Place To Be Seen
While on my west coast tour I had the pleasure of being in the Seattle area while performing with the Everett Washington Symphony, which was a blast and doing an intimate show at Seattle's very private club, The Ruins. So for our April/May review, I decided to give you 2 very different eating experiences. The first, a famed Seattle fine dining spot, El Gaucho. This high glamour 1940s style restaurant is clearly designed as a place to seen. The large elegantly lit room is straight out of film noir. Tables surround the room in circular tiers and the mood is set to stroll through a late '40's fantasy.
Our party of six, which included my traveling companions, pianist arranger Tony Monte, and my manager Chris Morano, was seated in one of the private dining rooms. Hmmm. I wonder if they know we would be trouble? Our dining room was truly fabulous. We had a large round table and were surrounded by walls of fine wine! Who could ask for anything more?
We began our meal with a round of dry martinis
of course! And to accompany the perfect cocktails, a large platter of Northwest Oysters for the table and an order of a house specialty, Wicked Shrimp! Delightfully spicy!
Our charming server Barry took great care in explaining the menu and we tended to favor what El Gaucho is known for, steak! All steaks are 28-Day Dry Aged. My Frenched rib eye was perfection. As was Tony's New York Peppercorn. Chris tried the King Salmon and was kind enough give me a taste. Buttery!
But the most dramatic feature of the evening was the Shish Kebab of Lamb. It was flamed for us at the table on a huge sword with our server wearing a much-needed protective glove! High drama!
Now when it came time for desert, they knew the way to my heart. We were served beautiful wedges of Bleu Cheese with large bowls of fresh fruit. This was my desert as everyone else selected from the sweet menu.
Favorite deserts were; Chocolate Ganache, pecan crust with bittersweet chocolate served over a high caramel sauce, Burnt Cream, much like a crème brulee, and Bananas Foster, flambé tableside! They just love those flames!
El Gaucho is not the sort of dining one could do everyday, but what a special occasion! Just a glorious evening!

Weller's Speedway Café, Fine Dinering
During our stay in Everett we used our instincts to find some great diner food. We loved this place so much, we went to breakfast there everyday of our stay. Weller's Speedway Café was right across the street from our Hotel. Owner Pam Weller takes the term "Speedway" to heart as she flies through the dining room. She has more energy than 32 pots of coffee and is highly entertaining. The menu features burgers, egg platters, wonderful omelets and Speedway special that consists of scrambled eggs with onions, peppers, ham, cheese, and potatoes all mixed together. Fabby! Our other favorite was Tony's order of Chicken Fried Steak with Biscuits and Gravy! The best that diner dining can offer at Weller's! Check it out.
