For the autumn trip you may take to New England, I highly recommend a delightful dining spot in Ogunquit Maine, Poor Richard's Tavern.
Walking along Shore Road, we came across this wonderful place by accident. Something about it appealed to us immediately. This charming restaurant has a relaxed elegance and a cozy New England feel as soon as you walk in the door. The rooms are candlelit with lots of dark wood, white linen and art work.
We had a short wait at the bar for a table and were served delicious cocktails. Some were specialty drinks of the house but mine of course was a classic Citron Martini. It was chilled to perfection! We then were seated by the window with a view of Shore Road.
The appetizers we sampled were; the Seafood Chowder, the Escargot, and Caesar Salad. All were delicious! Especially the Chowder. It had a delicate creamy base and a lot of clams, shrimp, and lobster.
Everything we ordered was not only good but wonderful! Richard Perkin's (owner) Cove Lobster Stew Dinner is a house specialty. Lobster laced with crab and haddock! Amazing.
We also tried another specialty, The Yankee Pot Roast Jardinière, classic New England fare.
And we had the Char Broiled Filet Mignon Béarnaise. Medium rare! Perfect!
All entrees are served with the house Buttermilk Biscuits.
The whole evening was a high spot in our visit to Ogunquit. The proprietors, Richard Perkins and Robert Maurais have been in the business of serving this wonderful food since 1958. They are doing right! And the service was excellent too. One of the very friendly staff members told me that much of the artwork was done by one of the proprietors. I think is was Robert but I am not sure. You will have to go in and ask for yourself.
I have included a recipe from Poor Richard's that will be a perfect addition to a fall meal! If you pay visit, tell them you read about them on my site!
