Spider's Champagne Cocktail

You and your sweetie are a pleasing blend of the two outstanding examples of your type. So is this cocktail. And, like you, it's slightly unconventional.

Put the sugar and bitters in a champagne glass. Twist the orange rind over them to extract the oils and muddle to dissolve the sugar. Add the champagne slowly. Even more slowly than that, add the cognac, so that it floats on the surface.
