The Caipirinha (ky-PREEN-ya) is the national drink of Brazil. To make an authentic version, you will have to seek out the Brazilian liquor known as Cachaca. It's like rum, except that while rum is distilled from molasses, Cachaca is distilled from unrefinded cane sugar.
 | 1 lime
 | 1 Tbsp sugar
 | 3 oz Cachaca

Cut the lime into small pieces (at least six), put them in a squat glass, and crush them well with a wooden spoon. Add the sugar and stir. Add the cachaca and stir again. Add ice to fill and stir one more time.
